Length is the other half of the multiplication.

A message is billed per segment. The encoding decides how many characters fit in one, and a single character can change the encoding.

How is the cost of an SMS campaign calculated?

Number of recipients, times the number of segments in the message, times the published rate of each destination. A 1-segment message to 10,000 numbers in the United States costs $84.00 at today's rate of $0.0084.

What is a segment?

The unit carriers bill. One GSM-7 message holds 160 characters (153 per part when concatenated); one Unicode message holds 70 characters (67 per part when concatenated). A longer text is split into parts and each part is billed.

Does the price per message go down with volume?

No. The rate is the same for one message and for a million, so the calculator is a multiplication. There are no tiers to unlock and nothing to negotiate.

Are there fees on top of the calculated cost?

No setup fee, monthly fee or carrier surcharge line. Rejected messages are free. Optional extras, such as a rented two-way number, are priced separately in the panel.

Why does an emoji change the cost?

An emoji is outside the GSM-7 alphabet, so the whole message switches to Unicode: 70 characters (67 per part when concatenated) instead of 160 characters (153 per part when concatenated). A 150-character text goes from one segment to three.

Can I get the rates as data?
