Alphanumeric sender ID support by country: the full table

Three rules

Every destination applies one of three rules to an alphanumeric sender such as ACME. Delivered: the name reaches the handset as typed, no paperwork. Registration required: operators deliver the name only once it is registered with them; until then the message leaves from a shared numeric sender. Numeric sender: operators do not deliver names at all and a local number is substituted. Names are 3 to 11 characters from A to Z, 0 to 9 and space, and cannot receive replies.

Across the 228 destinations we serve: 114 deliver alphanumeric senders as typed, 64 require registration first, and 50 substitute a numeric sender, which is the rule across the Americas and in China. The table below is generated from the same data as the coverage directory and the country pages, so it cannot drift from them.

Planning a multi-country send

Because the rule is per destination, a single campaign to a mixed list shows your name in Germany, a shared number in India until you register, and a local number in Brazil. Two habits make that painless. Put the brand in the first words of the text, so the message identifies itself whatever the sender field shows. And check the split before sending: the composer lists the rule for each destination in the list, and the delivery report records the sender that was actually used for every message.

When registration is worth it

Register where you send regularly and the name matters: recurring marketing to the Gulf, Turkey or Nigeria, for example. For occasional traffic or one-time codes, the shared numeric sender delivers just as well and costs nothing. Lead times run from days to weeks depending on the country, and traffic keeps flowing in the meantime.
